Richard Thompson at Parchman Stremmel
"What I see in nature is often fleeting and elusive. What I think about in the studio is creating art that is composed and clear. In between those two competing visions is my expression of that tension, in other words, my work... my nature..."

Gary Sweeney
This is a quote from Gary for his statement about his current images. He is part of the September 17th tour.
"The City of San Antonio has commissioned me to create a piece of artwork for the new airport parking garage under construction.

What I have designed is a series of nostalgia baggage labels that highlight San Antonio and the surrounding area. My intent is to celebrate and poke gentle fun at the uniqueness of South Texas, in a style that resembles tourist luggage labels from the past."

Bloodlines
In the past, most of my work has been photo-based. Though this new work is not photography, it has its roots past work. It is “reality-based”, not with physical objects, but concepts.

In our modern world of “millions” and “billions”, the viseral meaning and understanding of these numbers is often lost. My desire was to bring them into the physical world, to produce actual visual representations of very abstract, yet completely real concepts of numbers that approach the infinite. What does pi look like? What does a million digits of anything look like? Is there any pattern to prime numbers? To make numbers real and tangible in a way that we can start to understand was my goal
