Studio Visit with Ben Mata and Louis Vega Trevino |
Ben Mata
Ben Mata works on aluminum panels using artist oils and power tools to manipulate the surface. The luminous metallic surface allows him to create a variety of textures and depths. Mata claims that this allows for a process of discovery; he is led by intuitive responses to the surface which guide him in the execution of the work. |

Louis Vega Trevio
Louis Vega Trevino's painting is something of a paradox: balancing cool analysis with a hot pursuit of color relationships in which he blurs the distinction between color, line and form such that those elements seem to merge and deconstruct in an astonishing blend of earthy umbers, orchids and sienna's deployed against jewel-like hues that are only primary in relation to one another. Trevino's daring approach to color relations breaks new ground in the history of colorists, a tradition in which he is rapidly establishing a secure and intriguing position."

Gallery Visit with Laura Mijangos |
Laura Mijangos
After the illnesses and deaths of my late husband and parents, I found myself, with only their memories. And with my children grown, a bitter-sweet inspiration was born from this painfully unfamiliar place. Within me there was a longing to articulate something, something that, for me, could only be expressed through painting—so I began my journey.
I titled this new series "Ruminations" because to ruminate is to think, brew, chew, contemplate, muse, ponder, reflect, meditate. That is what I hope my paintings invoke. I would like my work to create a thought provoking dialogue between it and the viewer. |

Studio visit with Carla Veliz - very exciting mixed media painter |
| Carla Veliz's work draws on her life experience and is informed by her duality as a Mexicana living in the United States. In her work, Veliz explores the classic quest for belonging and identity. She often draws inspiration from struggle and hardship, both in world events and on our borders, and works these emotions into her pieces. Rather than being oppressive, however, her works suggest an optimism that her themes might not immediately suggest. |
