Joan Grona Gallery Visit - Paintings by Derrick Durham

Joan Grona Gallery presents a new series of paintings by J. Derrick Durham entitled Idle Down!..Hang Around: Peanut Tank Paintings that focus on the relationship between transit and memory through the nexus of biker culture. The term "hang around" refers to bikers who spend time, by invitation, hanging around motor cycle clubs. During the past year (2010) the artist spent time hanging around and riding with members of regional MC's, crisscrossing the state of Texas, capturing through photography the lifestyles and stories of the various members and events then translating these images into paintings that serve as a simulacrum of memory/images rather than literal transcriptions of the source material.

Studio Visit with nationally recognized artist, Vincent Valdez

Taken from an interview with Vincent Valdez by Michael Knowlton....."Valdez is interested in hidden stories, myths, archetypes, heroes....He believes every person has a moment of truth -- or defining moments they have been preparing for, or not, all their lives. Valdez is interested in that fated moment and its story."

Ben Mata

My work explores complex relationships between painting and sculptural elements; bringing non-objective two dimensional space and three dimensional objective forms together in a unified work of art.

Studio Visit with George Schroeder

GEORGE SCHROEDER

George Schroeder's work is known for it's physicality, rawness and remarkable elegance. His primary concerns are to create abstract sculptures that evoke tension within form, to push the physical boundaries of the material, to arrest motion , and ultimately change the space into a definitive visual experience.
